How do I store string lights without tangles?
Tangling is the worst enemy of fairy lights. With the right technique, you can prevent it.
Method 1: The ellipse roll Wrap the string lights in a wide ellipse (like a garden hose), not a small circle. Secure with a loose knot or Velcro straps.
Method 2: Wrap around a piece of cardboard Wrap the string tightly around a piece of cardboard approximately 15x20 cm. Secure the end with tape. Stackable and tangle-free.
Method 3: Resealable bag Place the loosely coiled string in a large resealable bag or an old shoebox. Label the outside.
Storage location:
- Dry and cool — not in a damp shed
- Not compressed with other items — this prevents damage to the lights
- Remove batteries for long-term storage — this prevents them from draining
After the season: Clean the string with a dry cloth before storage. Check if all the lights are still working before putting it away.
