How much sun does a solar lantern need to charge?
A solar lantern needs a minimum of 4-6 hours of direct sunlight for a full charge. When fully charged, the lantern will light for an average of 6-8 hours.
In cloudy weather: The solar panel also charges in indirect daylight, but slower. In prolonged cloudy weather (several days), the burning time may be shorter than normal.
Seasonal difference:
- Summer: long days, lots of sun → optimal performance
- Autumn: shorter days, less sun → slightly shorter burning time
- Winter: much cloud cover, short days → minimal performance
In the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, solar lanterns work best from April to September.
Maximum performance:
- Place the lantern in the sunniest spot — at least 4 hours of sun per day
- Keep the solar panel clear of leaves or shade from buildings
- Clean the solar panel occasionally with a dry cloth
