How do I hang string lights outdoors?

There are several ways to attach string lights outdoors — even without drilling.

Without drilling:

• Balcony railing clips: Clip the string lights over the railing using spiral clips
• Jute rope: Tie the string lights to a pergola or wooden beam with transparent or jute rope
• Self-adhesive hooks: Useful for facades or exterior walls, removable without damage
• Weaving through a hedge: Weave the string lights through the branches of a hedge or climbing plant

With drilling:

• Attach small eye hooks (screw hooks) to the wall or wooden beams at equal distances
• Hang the string lights on the hooks — simple and tidy

Tips:

• Allow a little sag in the string — too much tension stresses the connections
• Start at the power outlet or battery holder and work outwards from there
• Ensure the battery holder or plug stays dry (position it in a sheltered spot)
